South Shore Conservatory (SSC) is a community school for the arts on Boston's South Shore, welcoming individuals of all ages and abilities. With campuses in Hingham and Duxbury, SSC’s arts-based educational programs provide a creative path for a lifetime of learning, from childhood through adulthood, through outstanding faculty and nationally-celebrated programming in music instruction, ensembles, dance, early childhood education, creative arts therapy, performance, and community and school partnerships.

Responsibilities - Essential Functions and Skills
- Artistic Vision & Leadership
- Define the target audience(s) on the South Shore to determine strategy for “bringing SSC into the community, and the community into SSC.”
- Develop and articulate a cohesive and inclusive artistic vision that supports SSC’s mission and values.
- Curate and oversee programming across all SSC disciplines (music, dance, creative arts therapy, etc), including concerts, performances, and community events.
- Promote innovation in arts education and interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty, students, and surrounding communities.
- Program Development
- Support and expand current artistic offerings in partnership with three direct reports (Director of Early Childhood Education, Director of Arts Education, and Director of Creative Arts Therapies and Community Engagement) and explore new initiatives that respond to community needs and opportunities.
- Ensure programmatic excellence, inclusivity, and relevance to SSC’s diverse student body and audiences.
- Conduct program evaluations to assess effectiveness (objective and subjective) and ability to meet intended goals (artistic and financial)
- Partner with Institutional Advancement and Marketing to ensure appropriate visibility and representation within surrounding communities and target audiences.
- Faculty/Staff Leadership, Engagement & Support
- Oversee an organization wide staff of approximately 20 staff members and over 40 teaching artists to set and achieve ambitious goals, included but not limited to bringing in 3.6M in earned venue annually.
- Inspire and mentor faculty artists, providing professional development, collaboration, and creative exploration.
- Partner with department chairs and direct reports to maintain a high standard of artistic and educational quality.
- Implement appropriate faculty performance evaluation program(s).
- Community Partnerships
- Strategic & Operational Collaboration
- Proven record of artistic leadership, preferably within a multidisciplinary or educational arts organization.
- Deep knowledge and passion for the performing arts and arts education.
- Experience designing and managing programming that is artistically compelling, educationally enriching, and community-responsive.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire diverse teams and build strong relationships.
- A collaborative spirit, open mind, and creative vision aligned with SSC’s mission.
- Master’s degree in the arts, arts administration, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
- The role requires a great deal of interaction with the public, public and private presentations and the ability to identify and cultivate new and existing relationships.
- The salary range for this position is $120k-140k.
- This job operates in professional environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. The job may require going out in the field on the South Shore of Massachusetts for other teaching and/or performance opportunities.
- This position is mostly sedentary outside of travel. This would require the ability to sit at a desk, frequent walking, bending, or standing as necessary.
