Grad Bag, Inc. was founded in 2012 with a twofold mission: to support historically underserved college-bound students and to advance environmental sustainability.  Grad Bag is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on providing an equitable and sustainable transition to college for students in the area.  This is accomplished through partnerships with colleges & universities as well as local grantee organizations focused on student success.  Our organization collects, refreshes, and repackages lightly used dorm room essentials for redistribution to incoming students in need.  Grad Bag envisions a world where students enter dorm life confidently and can leave college contributing to a more sustainable planet.

Role Description:

The Regional Project Manager shall be responsible for maintaining existing relationships with our university and grantee partners, in-kind donors, and community volunteers and will curate new partnerships.  Beginning in January, the employee will contact partners to confirm participation in donation and/or delivery of goods.  From May to August, the Regional Project Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations at the designated worksite in Newton, Massachusetts.  This includes hiring interns, managing seasonal employees, coordinating and organizing volunteers, coordinating delivery and pick-up of portable storage units,  inventory management, coordinating college pick-ups in May, and organizing the distribution of goods at the end of the season.  Additionally, the Project Manager will solicit funds and in-kind donations of goods and services to support Grad Bag operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously collaborate and communicate with the Executive Director and the New York Regional Project Manager
  • Contact colleges and universities to confirm participation in collection, and arrange for the collection of gently used items
  • Outreach to local organizations and networks
  • Critical analysis of potential grantee organizations and college networks
  • Scheduling and time reporting for hourly employees
  • Inventory reporting
  • Budget tracking
  • Scheduling and coordinating logistics for the distribution of goods; including items given to partner nonprofit organizations
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment at all times

Required Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in a management role; including experience with deliverables, schedules, and budgets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work independently and as a part of an interactive team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with proficient organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 20 lbs

Desired Qualifications:
  • Fundraising experience
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Existing relationships with greater Boston area colleges and universities
