South Shore Conservatory (SSC) is a community school for the arts on Boston's South Shore, welcoming individuals of all ages and abilities. Overview:
SSC seeks enthusiastic and well-rounded guitar teachers with the passion and skills to teach a wide range of ages and levels, from beginner to advanced. The ideal candidates are versatile individuals who have a strong classical background and a willingness and ability to draw on a variety of genres, along with the facility to teach students at all stages of their journey.  Successful candidates will have the ability to teach a range of techniques.

Responsibilities
  • Teach private lessons for all levels and ages of students, including adults
  • Develop focused lesson plans to effectively deliver in-person lessons, and virtual lessons as needed
  • With the Department Chair, identify best-practice resources and materials to enhance student learning
  • Through lesson planning and goal setting, motivate student growth, and track student progress
  • Communicate in an effective and timely manner with SSC students and families
  • Actively participate in SSC String Department and community initiatives, including student events, recitals, and competitions, and encourage student participation when appropriate
  • Cultivate and maintain a positive and structured learning environment

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should be available to teach at both SSC’s Hingham and Duxbury campuses, and may include some virtual teaching as part of  SSC’s innovative Hyflex model. General teaching hours at both campuses are weekdays, Monday through Friday 2 PM - 8 PM, and Saturdays 9 AM - 4 PM. With SSC in a period of expansion, there are ample opportunities for growth and development for a motivated candidate who is committed to arts education and performance. The selected candidate will also participate in SSC’s thriving performance culture, and participate in student recitals, events, and competitions.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with two years of relevant teaching experience required. A Bachelor’s Degree in music performance or education is preferred, with priority consideration given to candidates with graduate-level degrees. The ideal candidate is a team player, has excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to pedagogy, and a desire to work with students at all levels. Candidates must have reliable transportation, particularly to access the Duxbury campus. 

What Else You Should Know:

The starting hourly wage for this role is $40-45 and hour. This job operates in a school-based studio environment, with requirements consisting of the ability to sit as needed, frequent walking, bending, and standing as necessary.
